About
Welcome to The Guamaso!

Me. Guamaso. You. Reader.
Guamaso (Gwa-Mah-Soh).
I am Mexican, in case you haven’t already guessed. I was born in California and, for a time, I spoke Spanish. Growing up, my mom and dad would threaten me with a “guamaso” if I didn’t behave. Later in life I would think about the word and how it rolled off the tongue. It’s kind of a cool word to say when you think about it. It became my favorite Spanish word and I thought it would be an appropriate name to my online journal. It’s actually spelled with a Z, but I didn’t know that when I registered the domain. Oh well. I don’t really care for the word “blog,” either – it sounds so hipster. I’m not a hipster, so I call this my journal.
The Players.
First you have the main players: me (you’ll see me refer to myself as RogueDad or El Guamaso); Ciriana, the wife; Izzy, the fearless future evil ruler of the world; and Baby Boy, currently a squiggly blur on an ultrasound and a funny feeling in Ciri’s tummy. I’m a stay at home dad, for now, or at least until Ciriana is done with her obligation to the US Army.
You’ll also hear about our families. Bobby (or Robert), my younger brother; Tanya, my sister; Chris, the youngest of my family; and, of course, my mom and dad. Ciriana’s family will make cameos as well, Zack, Luke, and Salvador are her brothers… her parents and the rest of her family are peppered in here somewhere, too.
We’ve met many friendly folk who become our friends. Gabe, my best friend since 3rd grade, is mentioned every now and then. Along with Samuel, Manny, Amy, Cynthia, and lots of others. They find their way in here somehow.
The Story(ies).
This site started as a way for me to keep in touch with my family on the other side of the States. It’s kind of evolved into my personal outlet for all of my hobbies and interests. Family, parenting, geekery, video games, DIY, design, life lessons, home audio, electronics, anime, movies, music, food, books, the internet… I really can go on forever… but for the most part this can all be summed up to three things. Design. Geekery. Parenting.
Because I started this site as a journal for family, I occasionally write stuff more aimed towards them. If others find those posts interesting, great! If not… oh well.
Just a reminder, English is actually my primary language, but sometimes my writing will prove the contrary. I have horrible grammar. I’m not unedumacated, but it may – from time to time – sound like I flunked out of school at a young age. Seriously, I didn’t. I got ma’ diploma and everything. I enjoy writing but I can be real bad at proofing myself or, sometimes, I’m just too lazy to proof read my stuff before I hit the Publish button. Please cut me some slack when I write like a fifth grader, I swear I’m not always that bad!
A Community to Call My Own.
I came across a notion in recent months of participating in an online community. Nothing huge, just a bunch of people that enjoy the primary three categories I described above. Finding one within my reach is proving harder then I originally thought, but it’s not something I’ve been pursuing 100%. If I have to create a community, I’ll be more than happy to, but I can’t believe that one doesn’t already exist. Head over to my Social page to find more about what I’m into and contact me if you have any leads or ideas. I’d love to listen to recommendations or even discuss ideas to create our own community.
