The New Adventures of Izzy and Jonas

Jonas was born on Saturday morning. At that point, our little family grew by 33 percent. Izzy is no longer an only child and the singular baby car seat now has a friend. It’s the beginning of a whole new series of adventures.

Technically the adventure started on Wednesday. Ciri started having strong contractions. Thursday I called in from work, we figured Jonas was on his way and it was time to start getting ready.

Izzy was our first priority. Thursday evening, Ciri’s dad came and picked Izzy up – she would stay with them until Saturday night. The moment he drove away, my heart hurt in a way that that I never felt before. But it had to be done.

We didn’t leave for the hospital until Friday afternoon, but we were sent back because Ciri wasn’t dialated enough yet.  So, we went home, watched some TV, talked about how much we missed Izzy and took a long nap.  Around two Saturday morning, we drove off again towards the hospital.  This time, no exam was needed, Ciri’s water broke half way to the hospital.

Jonas was born at 5:15 in the morning, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches tall.  In comparison, Izzy (born 7 weeks early) was just over 3 pounds and was 18 inches tall.  Their little bodies and minds are amazing.  You see them come to the world so tiny and frail and soon their pulling all the DVDs out in your living room while you’re not watching.  They really are something.

So, I guess you could call this their first adventure together. I know they weren’t together, but their separate adventures merged when Izzy offered Jonas a piece of her toast during lunch.  From now on, Izzy’s adventures will be peppered with stories and tales of her new sidekick, Jonas. Kinda like Mario and Luigi.

What’s in a name…

Jonas

Jonas

About four years ago, I got Ciri to watch Stargate.  She liked it a lot and we talked about it a lot. We talked about it at work, with friends, even with Ciri’s commander. Ciri’s commander is a huge geek and she offered to let us borrow her DVD sets of the TV show.  That’s how things work when you’re serving overseas; everybody borrows each others DVD box sets…

We started with season 1 and worked our way through to about 7 or 8 . It’s been a while since we originally watched them. The series sucked us in and we watched all of the available box sets in a couple months.

My favorite character was one of the rather short lived ones, Jonas Quinn.  I know some fans didn’t care for him, but I thought he was cool; I could relate with the character. Maybe it was because he shares the same hair line that I have… maybe because of his sense of justice… maybe because of his quick learning abilities… or maybe because of his idealistic views of his homeworld. Whatever the reason, Ciri and I agreed that he and his name were both wicked cool.

Jonas is a good strong name.  And, really, it’s as close as I’ll ever get to naming one of my kids after some geek related figure. (I wanted to name him Cloud.)  We decided then that our sons name, if God felt that we should be blessed with one, would be Jonas.

But then three little shmucks had to mess it all up.  Every time I mention our son’s name, I get the same reply: “Oh! You named him after the Jonas brothers?”  What the crap?!! NO! We named him after the great hero from the planet of Langara!  A man so stricken by guilt over his participation in building a deadly weapon that he decided to steal said weapon in order to save his people.  A man that tried hard to repent and atone for his sins everyday and with every mission.  Did we name him after three goofy looking, crap-singing, tools? Oh yea.  Sure.

Ugh. So… Jonas Isaac is his complete name and he’s about ready to join our little clan.  Are you watching the Guamaso Feed?  There’s already some activity with Jonas, so don’t miss out on any more events!
