The Grojects! My Project tracking site.

Whew, this Holiday season was busy!   Fun, but busy.   We were dog-sitting for one of Ciri’s coworkers over the Christmas week which meant that the garage was a bedroom for the dogs during the night.   They spent some time in the garage during the weekend which kept me from working on my Cardboard Dog House project.   Well, that and weekends were spent celebrating with family as well.

I spent the down time working on Internet projects like my website (check out the re-done Galleries page!) and other stuff.   One important project I picked up was The Grojects! Grojects is what I am calling my project tracking system.   It’s just a WordPress install with special categories set up to display my progress on specific projects.   It took me a while to set up because my server security was compromised.   More on that lovely issue this Saturday for The Guamasocast.

The Grojects!

The Grojects!

I’ve copied all my projects posts to my Grojects! page and all my future project posts will show up there.   I’ll write up my goals and expectations on this blog, but the meat and potatoes will remain on Grojects.

Going along with the newer, more disciplined self, I am going to set a goal for Grojects as well as my expectations of it.

I have sooo many projects and I tend to jump from one thing to another without actually accomplishing anything.   With Grojects, my goal is to better allocate my time and energy to projects that need it.   It will also help me become more efficient by keeping a list of things that need to get done for that project and when they need to be done by.   That deadline is the key issue I am trying to work on with this.

It’s basically a time tracking system but for the web… in blog-ish form… using wordpress.   I’m sure an actual software for this purpose exists but that is not the geek way.   From chaos, order – this is how we roll.   Make one thing do something else – something that it may not have been initially designed to do.   Then, complete whatever the task is as efficient as any other solution.

Anyway, that’s Grojects in a nutshell.   The Projects link at the top will redirect you to it.   It’s still in a rough draft (at best) status, but it’s core functionality is pretty much set.   I expect the design to change when I get a chance to play with it.   I’ll add a link to it that will redirect back to The Guamaso.

Since all of my sites are going under one “brand name,” I figured I should finish that place holder first.   Well, it’s pretty much done.   It’s a real simple design so it didn’t take that long.   About three hours of coding and it was good to go.   Check it out and while you’re at it, sign up for something while you’re there!

Old blogs I found…

May 30 2008 Published by JuanO under Blog

I was going through Blogger today because I remember starting some blogs waaay before Google purchased them.   I was trying to remember what blogs I started under what logins… I had so many back then.   I found two that I started, but I think I had more… oh well those are forever lost in the abyss that is the internet.   Anyway, while in Germany, Ciriana and I were going to enter the Paris marathon and we began training a little less than a year before.   I started this blog to document my training and weight loss.   The funny part is that the blog stopped because the training sucked.   We were running with Ciri’s unit in the wee hours of the winter mornings.   Yup, running about 6 miles in 40 degree air, probably not good for your health.   That’s really just an excuse, the truth is we decided we were too wimpy to run 25 miles.   Check out my three posts though, it’s pretty funny.   My First Marathon at Blogspot.com

The other blog was part of this site when it was under a different domain name.   I used it as a photoblog.   Just pictures, no words.   It was a difficult thing to keep up with at the time because my computing resources were limited with my old Sony pc (Pentium 2 baby, oh yeah.)   Things are easier with a P4 and a gig of memory.   Yes, Photoshop takes 1 minute to load instead of 5!   Anyway, I have two posts on that one as well.   Check it out here: Photos of Europe.

I may integrate them into this site later, just because I like my old stuff.   I wish I would have kept all the original posts from Dull Inspiration.com (or the mirror site: TheWorldIsMines.com), remember that site?   Oh man, the memories…   I didn’t know a lick of HTML back then, so you can imagine how hard it was to keep up with it.   That’s what I liked about Blogger (then Blogspot), it was so easy to create posts and change the style of your site.   I don’t think it was able to use a domain name without the blogspot.com thing, but it does now!   I may go back to using it for some anonymous blogs I want to start.
