Word Camp RDU

Word Camp RDU

The blog I started 5 years ago, Dull Inspiration, ran on software called Movable Type.   It was a complicated system, especially for someone that had very little experience with HTML.   I kind of gave up on the blog and let it go.   I signed up for a Blogger account and started using that, but, like my previous attempt, it failed as well.

Fast forward about a few years and here I am trying to become a mainstream blogger with WordPress as my platform of choice.   Since my switch to WordPress, I’ve learned a lot about HTML, PHP, and CSS as I played around with the software.   I created many templates for my other sites, each more intricate and professional than the last.   Now, I believe that I have a very good working knowledge of the software and want to take it to the next level.

Five Media DS is my business that I am trying to start that deals with web design.   When I started working on it, I thought that I should attend classes for design.   I also wanted to attend conventions and seminars for graphic design.

WordCamp is a convention, where developers, designers, and end users can group together to learn, share, and just have fun.   I heard of a WordCamp in Texas and the big one in San Francisco, so I didn’t think I would get to go until business picked up.   Well, my wish has come true. There is a WordCamp in Raleigh this weekend, Oct. 4th!   I’ve signed up to go, it will be from 8 am to 5 pm (or was it 6 pm…).   I’m going to take lots of pictures, talk to lots of WordPress folk, and hopefully continue to learn more about WordPress and it’s many features.

I’m really excited and nervous; I’ve never been to one of these shindigs before.   I’m pretty sure I can take a laptop and blog about what is going on, but the battery only lasts about 4 hours.   I hope I can charge it while I am there because I really want to blog and send tweets to my Twitter account.   I’m also going to be sending the photos to my Flickr stream either with my cell phone or with the laptop, depending on the laptop thing.

Hopefully, nothing comes up this Saturday that will keep me from going, otherwise keep an eye on my social feeds this Saturday to see what WordCamp RDU is all about.

Coming soon: The Guamaso Version 3.0!

I am a man of change.   I am a man that pushes his talent and skill on a daily basis.   I have ADD, according to my close friends and family.   That is probably why I felt like changing the overall design of my site.   Actually, as I learn new tricks and get creative with them, I like to implement them in my websites.

The new version does away with that light blue, which I never really cared for, but it went well together.   My logo gets a teeny little face lift, nothing big with it except the background.   The biggest gripe I have of the version 2 was the sidebar.   It really didn’t flow – it didn’t jive.   This new design contains each widget in the sidebar in it’s own box, and overall, it looks cleaner and spiff-y-er.

On the other hand, version 3 does away with much of the personal touches that made it our website.   I say our even though Ciri has only posted once, and I had to bribe her to do it too.   The point is that I removed all the little Mii’s of Ciri and myself.   I’ll find a new way to make it more personal again.   I don’t want to make it look like a typical blog design.

I’m also updating my templates.   The templates control how my posts and pictures show up on your computer screen.   I think I figured out how to show all my projects in a list form.   This way, any post I make for a specific project will automatically be routed to my Projects page in a nice, easy to read way.   Right now, the projects page is set to display any post I tag as a project related post.

I’ve finished building my server so I can test my new design before I actually implement it here.   One day, when you come back, BAM -

The Guamaso, Version 3.0
